Spatial Exploration of Areas Affected by Heatwaves Using Big Data: The Impact on Urban Residents’ Activities

With the increase in frequency and intensity of heatwaves due to continued climate change changes urban spaces, research is needed reduce their negative impacts. In Korea, several studies have been conducted on subject since unusual occurrence extreme weather 2018; however, as few focused effects lives activities residents, this study investigates these explores spatial aspects. Using population big data, active days when occurred were statistically verified through a paired-samples test. Additionally, regional variations analyzed using GIS cluster analysis. Despite slight temporal variation, statistical analysis showed that heatwave associated with decreased activity among residents. There was difference between regions, revealed some hot spots saw increased despite heatwaves, including Mapo-gu, Songpa-gu, Gangnam-gu weekdays Gwanak-gu, Gangseo-gu, Eunpyeong-gu weekends. Conversely, cold found included Seodaemun-gu, Gangbuk-gu, Seongbuk-gu, Jongno-gu Jongno-gu, Jung-gu, Seocho-gu, These results can serve basic data prepare response policy reflects characteristics region.
